In a bid to stem the spread of the Coronavirus in the workplace, the federal government has provided facilities for the conduct of tests for civil servants in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Over 45, 000 Zulu maidens successfully went through virginity testing in their districts throughout the province participated in the annual Reed Dance (Umkhosi Womhlanga) which started at the Enyokeni Palace of King Goodwill Zwelithini on Friday, September 8. Virginity testing (ukuhlolwa kwezintombi ) is an ancient Zulu tradition that is regarded as an important rite of passage to womanhood.
A Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday adjourned till March 9, the final judgement in the case of alleged extra-judicial killings of six Igbo traders by the police in Abuja in 2005. Five police officers were found culpable in the killings and are facing trial. Judgement had been set to be delivered on Monday, 11 years after the act. Justice Ishaq Bello of the FCT High Court, however, failed to deliver judgement and adjourned the suit. The protracted trial has been hindered mostly due to institutional challenges ranging from series of adjournments, conveyance of defendants from the prison to court and difficulty in getting witnesses to testify. Embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has denied allegations levelled against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, daring the anti-graft agency to provide incontrovertible any evidence against her. She also faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption fight, saying it was aimed at demonising and destroying a few Nigerians.
