Buhari lands in Daura for Sallah

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday arrived his home town, Daura, Katsina State, for the Eid-El-Kabir celebrations. Governor Aminu Masari led top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, to receive him at the Umar Musa Yar’Adua International Airport, on his way to Daura. The Emir of Katsina, Dr.Kabir Abdulmumin, was also at the airport to welcome the President. The presidential jet that brought Buhari to Katsina touched down at the tarmac of the airport at 4:06 pm. After airport ceremonies, Buhari boarded a helicopter to his home town, Daura, where he is expected to spend the Eid-El-Kabir holiday.

Fifty five management staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC were affected today in a massive reshuffle ordered by Group managing director, Dr. Maikanti Baru. Baru, told NNPC staff shortly before the announcement was made public that the new appointments would not only help to position the Corporation for the challenges ahead but would help fill the gaps created due to statutory retirements of staff. Under the new arrangement, Roland Ewubare, formerly MD of the Integrated Data Services Limited, IDSL moves to the National Petroleum Investment Management Services, NAPIMS as the new Group General Manager while Diepriye Tariah, former GGM and Senior Technical Assistant to the NNPC GMD takes over from Ewubare as MD of IDSL. Malami Shehu, Executive Director Operations, of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, KRPC, was appointed Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company, PHRC while Adewale Ladenegan, former MD of the Warri Refining and Petroch

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday submitted the report of the committee that investigated the allegations against the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ayo Oke, to President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja. The committee which had the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN); and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, as members was initially billed to submit its report to Buhari on May 8 but could not do so because the President left the country on May 7 for medical follow-up in London. Speaking to State House correspondents after submitting the report, Osinbajo said he would not divulge the details of the report. He said the ball was now in the President’s court to study the report and take decisions based on the recommendations. President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday said the unity of the country would not be open to any negotiation. The President, in its first statement to Nigerians since he returned to Nigeria after a 104-day medical vacation in London, added that political mischief makers who were fuelling ethnic violence would be dealt with. Buhari, who said he was not against legitimate concerns, noted that different groups must air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence. The National Assembly and the National Council of State are the legitimate and appropriate bodies for national discourse,” he added. The President said he had been monitoring developments in Nigeria from London, adding that some comments, especially on the social media, crossed the national red line by questioning the nation’s continued existence. The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye on Friday visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London. Adeboye, garbed in a black native was seen sitting with the ailing president who was spotted reading the former’s biography, which he recently launched. Buhari traveled to the United Kingdom over 100 days ago to treat unknown ailment. Adeboye’s visit is coming barely 24 hours after the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his House of Representative counterpart, Yabubu Dogara also visited the president. Speaking after their trip to London, Dogara urged Nigerians to continue to pray and offer thanks for answered  prayers for the safe return of the President. “Today we visited His Excellency, President Muhammadu Buhari. I am glad that he is doing well.” His health has improved tremendously. I urge all Nigerians to continue to pray and offer thanks to God for answered prayers and for the safe return of Mr. President.

Legendary Nigerian singer and social crusader, Charles Oputa a.k.a Charly Boy, who has been staging a massive peace protest tagged,  “Our Mumu Don Do” , in the federal capital Abuja alongside the convener of Concerned Nigerians, Adeyanju Deji, on Tuesday escaped mob action. According to photos and videos making the rounds on social media, Area Father as he is fondly called, took his peaceful  “Resume or Resign”  protest to Wuse Market in Abuja, and was warmly welcomed by many people until some hoodlums who reportedly support the president attacked him, stoned him and smashed his car’s windscreen, as he escaped the mob action.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities has commenced an indefinite nationwide industrial action. The National President of the union, Dr. Biodun Ogunyemi, announced this on Monday during a meeting of the National Executive Council of ASUU in Abuja. He said during the strike, there shall be no teaching, no examination and no attendance of statutory meetings of any kind in any of the union’s branches across the country. According to  Channels TV , Dr. Ogunyemi declared a total, comprehensive and indefinite nationwide strike after a nationwide consultation with members at an emergency NEC meeting held on Saturday, August 12, 2017. How ’19’ members impeached Edo Assembly Speaker

There was drama at the Edo State House of Assembly when the Speaker of the House, Dr. Justin Okonoboh, was impeached, following an impeachment notice signed by 16, out of the 24-member assembly. The former principal officer of the House representing Akoko Edo I, Mr. Kabiru Adjoto, was elected as the new Speaker. Three other members were said to have appended their signatures to increase the number to 19. The new leadership of the House also said that Okonoboh, his deputy, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie; and the former Majority Leader, Mr. Foly Ogedengbe, had been suspended for three months. But Ogedengbe described the impeachment as illegal, adding that the House did not form a quorum. The House had only reconvened after 26 days of break for oversight functions when the incident occurred. The main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party, says Acting President Yemi Osinbajo is not in charge of the country. It said actions taken by the Acting President had shown that power was not handed over to him contrary to the claim by the Presidency that ailing President Muhammadu Buhari ceded power to him (Osinbajo) before leaving Nigeria for London on medical trip more than 90 days ago. Spokesperson for the party, Dayo Adeyeye, who spoke with one of our correspondents on Sunday, wondered why the Acting President had refused to assign portfolios to the two ministers that were sworn in more than two weeks ago. JUST IN: PDP extends Makarfi’s tenure

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has extended the tenure of the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee by four months. The extension was approved Saturday afternoon by delegates from the country’s 36 states and the FCT at the Eagle Square, Abuja. The convention also approved a recommendation for the dissolution of the state executive committee in Anambra,as well as those of all the local governments and wards in the state. Governorship election will be held in the state in November. In the same vein, the convention approved the dissolution of the state executive committees in Adamawa, Borno, Kebbi, Kwara, Osun, Lagos and Ogun states. Caretaker committees proposed by the NCC for all the states were also approved. More to come.

Osinbajo approves appointment of 21 permanent secretaries

The Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has approved the appointment of 21 new Permanent Secretaries in the Federal Civil Service. Mrs Winifred Oyo-Ita, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, announced this in a statement by Mr Haruna Imrana, Director, Communications in the office on Thursday in Abuja. The permanent secretaries are Ehuria Ekeoma (Abia State); Akpan Sunday (Akwa Ibom); Anagbogu Nkiruka (Anambra); Walson-Jack Esther (Bayelsa); Gekpe Isu(Cross River); Aliboh Lawrence (Delta) and Uwaifo Clement ( Edo). Others are Folayan Olaniyi (Ekiti state); Osuji Marcellinus (Imo); Mu’azu Abdulkadir (Kaduna); Sulaiman Lawal (Kano); Abdullahi Mashi (Katsina State); Adebiyi Adekunle, (Lagos); Ibrahim Wen, (NasarawaS tate); Odewale Olajide (Ogun) and Adesola Olusade (Ondo State). The Presidency has disclosed that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, on Friday, paid a personal visit to ailing President Muhammadu Buhari in London, United Kingdom where he has been receiving medical attention since May 7. The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday. Adesina said the Archbishop visited Buhari, who he described as his friend, at Abuja House, London. The presidential spokesman quoted Welby as saying during the visit that he was delighted to see the rapid recovery Buhari has made from his health challenges. A source who spoke to newsmen, revealed that Buhari and OBJ discussed about recent happenings in the country. President Buhari played host to former President Olusegun Obasanjo in London on Saturday, July 29, 2017. According to  Tribune Online,  the former President was accompanied by the former Osun state Governor,  Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola. Reports say Obasanjo arrived the Abuja House in London, around 9:00 pm and proceeded immediately for a meeting with Buhari. A source who spoke to Tribune Online said Buhari and OBJ discussed about recent happenings in the country. The source also said  “After the exchange of courtesies, Buhari and Obasanjo left for another room in the house where they held a 40-minute meeting.”

Shake up in Nigerian Prisons Service

The Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Ahmed Ja’afaru has redeployed 32 senior officers as part of its efforts to ensure efficient service delivery. Mr. Francis Enobore‎, the NPS Spokesperson, made this known to newsmen in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja. According to him, the redeployment‎ is contained in a posting instruction issued on August 1, and signed by the CGP. Enobore said the posting was in line with‎ the need to have the recently promoted Deputy Controllers-General take charge as substantive Directorate heads. He said the posting was also to address some administrative gaps pursuant to the present administration’s drive for excellent service delivery. In the posting, DCG Shehu Kangiwa now heads the Finance and Accounts Directorate, while DCG Dorathy Atagiri takes charge of the Directorate of Health and Social Welfare Services. DCG MBE Shemfe heads the Directorate of Operations and DCG Charles Ahaotu heads Works and Logistics Directorate.
