Adeleke asks supreme court to sack Oyetola

Ademola Adeleke, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Osun state, has filed a notice of appeal at the supreme court over the verdict of the appeal court. The appellate court had declared Isiaka Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun, dismissing the verdict of the tribunal which favoured Adeleke. In a statement, Niyi Owolade, a counsel to Adeleke, said the PDP candidate asked the apex court to set aside the verdict of the appeal court and uphold that of the tribunal. Owolade said Onyeachi Ikpeazu, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is leading 23 senior lawyers to file four appeals against “each of the four majority judgements of the appeal court.” “The appeals are against [the] majority judgement in favour of Gboyega Oyetola, All Progressives Congres, the Independent National Electoral Commission and the striking out of the cross appeals of Senator Adeleke,” the lawyer said. “The first Appeal was against the majority lead judgement delivered by Justice J.

Brighton 1-4 Manchester City: Champions retain Premier League title on final day

Manchester City came from behind to retain the Premier League title in style with a 4-1 victory at Brighton on the final day of the season. City looked on course for a nerve-jangling final outing at the Amex Stadium when Sadio Mane's opener for Liverpool against Wolves - which temporarily moved the Reds top of the table - was compounded by Glenn Murray heading Brighton into the lead on 27 minutes. But City produced the response of champions. Sergio Aguero struck just 83 seconds after Murray's opener, before Aymeric Laporte's header secured a half-time lead.

Saraki to EFCC: Stop the Witch-Hunt against Me

Image
The Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has described as mere witch-hunt the investigations commenced by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the various institutions where he had served or presently serving. The Senate president said this yesterday in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu. Saraki was responding to EFCC’s reaction to a report that the anti-graft agency had written a letter to the Kwara State Government demanding for all details of salaries, allowances, estacode or any other entitlement enjoyed by Saraki during his tenure as governor of the state between 2003 and 2011. Saraki argued that the exercise by the EFCC was only aimed at settling scores, laced with malicious and partisan motives. The EFCC in the report had claimed that, “the commission’s letter to the Kwara State Government House, which sought an inquest into Saraki’s earnings as the state governor, from 2003 to 2011 was dated Friday

Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino will miss Liverpool's Champions League semi-final vs Barcelona

The Egyptian was stretchered off during Saturday evening's 3-2 Premier League win at Newcastle with a head injury, while his strike partner Firmino is struggling with a groin injury. Firmino was replaced in the starting team by Daniel Sturridge and was already confirmed out of the Barcelona game, but Salah's absence compounds the difficulty of the task for Jurgen Klopp's side, who are 3-0 down after the first leg. The German confirmed that both players would be out in a press conference on Monday, saying that the decision had been taken on medical grounds and was out of his control. "It's not a precaution, it's a concussion," said Klopp. "He would not even be allowed to play, so that's it. "He feels ok but it's not good enough from a medical point of view, that's all. He's desperate, everything, but we cannot do it. He can play at the weekend."

Ramadan begins on Monday, Sultan declares

Image
The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has declared Monday the first day of Ramadan fast in Nigeria. Abubakar announced the sighting of the new crescent in Sokoto on Sunday in a radio and television broadcast. He said the new moon was sighted in various places across the country, which indicates that Sunday is the end of 8th Islamic month of Sha’aban. The Sultan said that reports of the moon sighting were received from Muslim leaders and organisations across the country. “Upon due verification and authentication by the national moon sighting committee and states committees’ confirmation, as well as routine scrutiny, the sighting of the new moon of Ramadan signifies the end of Sha’aban 1440 AH. “In accordance with Islamic law, the Muslim Ummah is to commence fasting on Monday, May 6, 2019 accordingly,” he said. He enjoined all Muslims to devote themselves fully to the worship of Allah throughout the Holy Month, and use the period to pray for leaders at all levels, prog

BAD NEWS! Mohamed Salah Seriously Injured In Liverpool’s Victory Against Newcastle

Image
Premier League top scorer Mohamed Salah was taken off on a stretcher during Liverpool’s 3-2 win at Newcastle. The Reds forward was left clutching his head after an aerial collision with Magpies keeper Martin Dubravka. Salah, who scored his team’s second goal, was replaced by Divock Origi after 73 minutes with the match level at 2-2. Origi quickly made his presence felt, heading in the Anfield side’s winner with four minutes remaining. The result means the title race will definitely go to the final day of the season on Sunday, 12 May. Liverpool are two points clear of rivals Manchester City, who will play their game in hand against Leicester on Monday. Before that, Liverpool will face Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, and Salah’s injury will be a concern for manager Jurgen Klopp as his side attempt to overturn a 3-0 deficit from the first game. “We’ll have to see and we’ll have to do a proper assessment,” Klopp said of Salah’s prognos

'Only Messi or Ronaldo could replace Hazard at Chelsea'

Image
Wayne Bridge isn't sure that the Blues will be able to find a suitable replacement for the Belgian, should he complete a £100m move to Real Madrid Wayne Bridge doesn't think that Chelsea are capable of replacing Eden Hazard, with Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi the only two players who could match his impact for the Blues. Hazard is one of Madrid's primary targets this summer and he has spoken openly about moving to Los Blancos to play under his idol, Zinedine Zidane.

Guardiola: Liverpool are the most difficult league rival I've faced

Image
The Spaniard says that Jurgen Klopp's side have provided the toughest challenge he's encountered in his career Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has claimed Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are the 'most difficult' league opposition he has faced in his career. City are involved in one of the tightest Premier League title races in years with the Reds, as they lead their rivals by one point with two matches remaining. The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss is no stranger to winning league titles with eight in his top-level managerial career so far, but believes Liverpool have been the staunchest challenger despite facing off against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Real Madrid in previous campaigns.
