Former Vice-President Namadi Sambo and President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki were among the top dignitaries that joined President Muhammadu Buhari at the special Juma’at prayer session at the Mosque situated in the Presidential Villa, Abuja as part of the ceremonies to herald Nigeria’s 57th independence anniversary. Sambo worshiped at the Aso Rock Mosque for the first time since he left office in 2015. He had visited the villa in the past, however, on a courtesy call to his successor, Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. BREAKING] Saraki reshuffles Senate committees’ chairmen

President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday announced a reshuffling of the chairmanship of Senate committees. The Senate Committee on Trade and Investments now has Senator Sabo Mohammed as the Chairman, while Senator Andy Uba (Anambra-South), who was Chairman of Committee on Public Accounts, was redeployed to Committee on Interior. Senator Matthew Urhoghide (Edo-South) was moved from Committee on Culture and Tourism to Committee on Public Accounts, while Senator Fatimah Raji-Rasaki (Ekiti-Central), who was Chairman of Committee on Trade and Investments, is now Chairman of Culture and Tourism. Committee on Local Content now has Senator Olamilekan Adeola (Lagos-West) as Chairman, while Senator Stella Oduah is now Chairman of Committee Cooperation and Integration. Senator Mustapha Bukar was appointed Chairman of Committee on Capital Market. BREAKING: Buhari returns to Nigeria

Buhari was said to have touched down at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 7pm on Monday. The President was received at the airport by his Chief of Staff, Abby Kyari, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Muhammad Bello, the Inspector General of Police, Idris Abubakar, among other dignitaries. President Buhari had left the country on Sunday, September 17 to attend the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. He left New York on Thursday for London where he spent about four days before returning to Nigeria No official reason was given for Buhari’s London visit but unconfirmed reports had it that he had travelled to London for medical reasons.

Aig-Imoukhuede, Dangote, bow out of NSE council

Mr Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede on Monday bowed out as the President, National Council of the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) after serving for three years. Aig-Imoukhueme, Aig-Imoukhuede officially announced his retirement at the NSE 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos for the financial year ended December 31, 2016. He commended the dealing member community for supporting its demutualisation efforts. Demutualisation is when a mutual company owned by its users/members converts into a company owned by shareholders. The users/members exchange their rights of use for shares in the demutualised company. He assured members that the National Council and the management of the exchange would remain committed to the demutualisation exercise. FG to reveal account details of IPOB sponsors

The Federal Government will be giving the French Government account details of the sponsors of terrorist group, Indigenous People of Biafra. The Nigerian Government had through the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said that France was the headquarters of IPOB’s funding. But the European country on Thursday said it had no knowledge of IPOB’s presence in France. But a very senior government official said the Federal Government had reached out to France, explaining that it did not accuse the country of being the sponsors of Biafra but that a large transfer of funds were made regularly from France to IPOB in Nigeria. It was learnt that the Federal Government had asked the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit and the Central Bank of Nigeria to compile the needed information on the sponsors and it hand it over to the French government. President Buhari to leave for UN General Assembly on Sunday September 17th.

President Buhari will on Sunday, September 17th, depart Nigeria for New York, to join other world leaders at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72). According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, part of the high point of President Buhari’s visit will be his participation in the General Debate during which he will deliver the country’s National Statement. The theme for this year’s Debate is: “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.” President Buhari will join other world leaders at the welcoming reception to be hosted by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and also hold a bilateral meeting with the UN scribe. Labour threatens indefinite strike from Friday

The United Labour Congress on Wednesday threatened that workers in the country would embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to meet its demands by Friday (tomorrow). The threat came barely two weeks after the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment responded to the workers through a letter, which the ULC said “largely failed to adequately address the critical issues raised in our demands.” The union issued the strike threat after an emergency meeting of its National Administrative Committee, which was held jointly with the National Strike Committee in Lagos. In a statement signed by the President, ULC, Joe Ajaero, the union urged Nigerians to take precaution and stock up necessities, saying, “The strike will be very effective as we hope to cripple all modes of transportation within the nation; ensure a total blackout nationwide; cut off petroleum product supplies; and disrupt banking operations, which will make life a bit more difficult for Nigerians. “We

NASS Shifts Resumption Date From Recess

The National Assembly has postponed the resumption of Nigeria’s federal lawmakers from their annual recess by one week. No reason was given for the decision. The lawmakers – senators and members of the House Representatives – were previously scheduled to resume from the recess next Tuesday, September 19. They have been on recess since July 27, when the House of Representatives voted on the fourth constitution alteration bill. But according to a statement with the title “postponement of resumption” by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Mohammed Sani-Omolori, on Wednesday, the resumption was extended by one week, giving eight weeks or two months of recess. No reason was given for the postponement in the statement. It read: “This is to inform all distinguished senators and honourable members of the National Assembly, of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that the resumption date of both Houses in plenary has been rescheduled from Tuesday 19th September 2017 to Tuesday 26th September 2017.

Nigeria must feed itself, says President Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday in Kaduna inaugurated Africa’s biggest hatchery and feed mill constructed by Olam Grains at the cost of over 150 million dollars.  Buhari, who inaugurated the company, had his speech read by Minister of Agriculture, Dr Audu Ogbeh. He described Olam as one of the largest agro-based companies in Africa and the biggest poultry investment in Nigeria. “We participated in the event because it is clear evidence that economic growth is taking place especially in the agricultural sector,” he said.
